Tsubaki Onsen is known as the inner sanctum of Shirahama Onsen and has flourished as a hot spring resort since ancient times.

It is said that when a white heron bathed in the local hot spring waters, the wound on its foot was healed, and so this famous hot spring has such a deep history that it was introduced as a famous hot spring in the “Kii Zoku Fudoki” (1835).
